The Pittsburgh International Dance Film Festival brings together artists and audiences from around the world to experience dance on screen.

The Pittsburgh International Dance Film Festival (PIDFF) grew out of the Constructed Sight Dance Film Festival, expanding its vision to become Pittsburgh’s premiere celebration of dance on film.
Constructed Sight was created by Shana Simmons, Jamie Erin Murphy, and Brady Sanders as a platform to showcase dance films through dynamic online events and new collaborations inspired by public art and site-specific locations throughout Pittsburgh. Today, PIDFF welcomes a global community of dance filmmakers, presenting films from around the world alongside a special Constructed Sight category honoring works inspired by public art or created for unique locations. The festival features a live Opening Night Event in Pittsburgh paired with online screenings that allow audiences everywhere to experience the program, connect with artists, and participate in conversations around dance and film. At its core, PIDFF celebrates the idea that movement speaks and film becomes the lens through which we see that communication, bringing together artists and audiences across cultures through dance on screen. As one artist shared: "I've never experienced a dance film festival with such a sense and feeling of community before." Audience members also help shape the festival through Audience Choice Awards, voting for their favorite films during the festival. Constructed Sight CategoryThe Constructed Sight Category highlights dance films that engage with visual art or site-specific locations. Selected works are featured during the Opening Night program, while additional submissions may be included in the broader festival lineup. |

Shana Simmons Dance (SSD) presents Constructed Sight 2022, an online dance for film series + dance film festival.
Originally created as a direct response to Covid-19, Constructed Sight has featured new dance films through a series of entertaining online "shows" featuring guest artists and hosted by mystery guest personalities since Fall 2020. Created by Shana Simmons, Jamie Erin Murphy, and Brady Sanders, three seasoned choreographers collaborated on generating new films through site specific choreography inspired by public works of art around Pittsburgh. The trio has individually created 15 separate films to date. |
