Constructed Sight Dance Film Festival
2023
March 30-April 10
Note from the Artistic Director~
Welcome to the Constructed Sight Dance Film Festival 2023! I am so excited you will be sharing this year's International film selections with us. Constructed Sight began in 2020 as a response to the pandemic...as most dancers and choreographers started to utilize film in more ways than ever before. Myself, Brady Sanders and Jamie Erin Murphy put our heads together and came up with developing individual solos either on, in, in front of, or under, Pittsburgh's wide variety of public works of art. We have learned so much through this process about both dance on film (still learning!) and this city's rich history of visual art. To date, SSD has helped facilitate 22 of these films featuring visual artists such as Peter Calaboyias, Scott Burton, Clement Meadmore, James Myford, Paul T Granlund, Sol Lewitt, Romare Beardon, and many more.
Our original goal for the Constructed Sight project was to provide an entertaining and artistically driven program in a much needed time. I hope you feel that the arts are continually needed, beyond the extremes of the pandemic and even into daily life.
At Shana Simmons Dance, it is one of my missions to aim to inspire people to appreciate the arts through movement experiences. We are honored to host International films and hope you are amazed by the fantastic artistry from other cultures.
If you have a good time tonight and would like to see more of this style of programming, please consider a donation to Shana Simmons Dance as a thank you and shout out to continue the Constructed Sight series. This project is our labor of love with no outside funding to support. We are aiming to create this program to be self-sustainable to continue to bring Pittsburgh to the outside world and bring outside countries' artists to Pittsburgh. www.shanasimmonsdance.com/donate
Thank you so much for your curiosity, your passion for the arts, and your support! SSD and Constructed Sight could not thrive without public support!
Enjoy the show,
Shana

Constructed Sight is a platform for a wide variety of dance films. We consider movement to speak and film to be a lens to see this communication. We value artistic commitment, creative relationship between screen and dance, and thoughtful presentations. We're looking for films that are true to the artists' voice in an effort to curate entertaining compilations of films. We accept and present films of all production values and budget sizes. We are interested in films that incorporate site specific locations as inspiration for the work and pieces that incorporate visual art in some way, but are not limited to these elements.
